Anna Friel Stars As A Woman Whose Life Is Completely Altered By A War Half A World Away

May 11, 2017 — War affects everyone involved, not just those who fight. The pain of those left behind is undeniable.

The War Bride is a beautifully acted drama about a young woman who finds herself alone with a newborn child when her husband goes off to fight in World War II. She knew that fighting in the war would be painful for her husband, but was, perhaps, unprepared for the ways it would change her own life.

To her relief, her husband’s family invites her and her daughter to come live with them in Canada. But she will soon discover that the lovely home her husband described before the war is not as appealing as she had hoped.

Now she finds herself separated from everything she had known before, with no idea if she will ever get back — or if her husband will ever return.

Anna Friel (Bathory: Countess of Blood) stars as the displaced young wife and new mother; Aden Young (Dark Frontier, I, Frankenstein), Brenda Fricker (My Left Foot) and Loren Dean (Say Anything, Gattaca) co-star.

The film would win 6 Genie® (the Canadian equivalent of the Emmys) Awards — Best Picture, Best Actress (Anna Friel), Best Supporting Actor (Loren Dean), Best Supporting Actress (Brenda Fricker); Best Costume Design and Best Art Direction/Production Design.
