Brian Orndorf Of Blu-Ray.Com Gives “Five Nights In Maine” 9 Out Of 10 Stars, Calling It “…An Exceptionally Acted, Smartly Scripted Drama That Packs A Wallop”
August 8, 2016 — Director Maris Curran’s intense, deeply-felt drama Five Night in Maine has been attracting stellar reviews.
Brian Orndorf explains why he gave the film 9/10 stars: “Curran has prepared something special, transforming a simple tale of reconnection into a labyrinth of surging, confusing emotions.”
Speaking of the leads, David Oyelowo and Dianne Wiest, TrustMovies says, “The acting here could hardly be bettered. … [Dianne Wiest] pulls from her arsenal of anger, pain and loss rather than from the humorous, scattered, flibbertigibbet array she sometimes uses. Either way, she gets the job done beautifully. …What a fine actor is David Oyelowo! . …. The actor gets another chance to shine in the new mini-movie, FIVE NIGHTS IN MAINE”
Of working with Dianne Wiest, Oyelowo commented to Variety, “Just being in a scene with Dianne was a masterclass in giving yourself over to the material.” He continued, “Much of what we did was emotionally painful and we would leave scenes like we left bits of ourselves behind.”
He added “I simply can’t understand how the population of this nation is 51 percent female but it’s not reflected behind the camera,” said Oyelowo. “I think women bring something different than men behind the camera. They are more open to emotionality and more keen to investigate that.”
