“Dead Awake” Is Like The Ultimate Nightmare — Except You Are Still Awake

May 3, 2017 — The worst thing about sleep paralysis is that it’s real.

The real phenomenon results in a half-awake state in which the sufferer’s mind is clear and active, but their body is paralyzed, so that they cannot respond physically to any stimulus.

No matter how frightening.

Written by Jeffrey Reddick, one of the creators of the Final Destination franchise, Dead Awake  is a horror/thriller about a young woman whose nightmares are accompanied by bouts of sleep paralysis during which she feels that something or someone is trying to strangle her in her sleep.

Her estranged twin sister must try to help solve the riddle.

A tribute to Wes Craven, Dead Awake stars Lori Petty (Orange is the New Black) as a doctor involved in the phenomenon, Jocelin Donahue (House of the Devil) as the troubled twins and Jesse Bradford (Flags of Our Fathers)  as the artist in love with one (or both) of the sisters.

FilmRise will present Dead Awake theatrically later this year.
