FilmRise Acquires The Award-Winning Bulgarian Documentary “The Good Postman” And The Acclaimed Chinese Comedy “Free And Easy”
March 2, 2017 — FilmRise announces the acquisition of the North American rights to two foreign films, Gen Jung’s Free and Easy and Tonislav Hristov’s The Good Postman.
Free and Easy, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival, is the story of an economically depressed region of Northern China, and the numerous con men who try to hustle their marks and make their way in rural China. This beautifully shot and wryly amusing comedy was nominated for the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize at
the Sundance Festival.
The Good Postman is a documentary about a popular postman in a small Bulgarian village who decides to run for mayor. Part of his plan to enhance the vitality and economic viability of his forgotten little town is to bring in refugees. But he is up against a stubborn and repressive group of opponents who want to close down their borders and to return the town to communist rule. The film won Best Documentary at the Trieste Film Festival.
The two films will be available for streaming later this year on Amazon Prime Video. FilmRise has opted in to Amazon Video Direct’s Film Festival Stars, a new initiative aimed at releasing films that premiere at festivals.
