November 11, 2016 — FilmRise and CNN have announced the acquisition of the music documentary Now More Than Ever: The History of Chicago, about the 5 decade-long success story of the world famous rock band the Chicago Transit Authority, also known as Chicago. CNN will broadcast it for the first time on New Year’s Day, with limited commercial interruptions.

FilmRise has acquired the worldwide distribution rights.

The film was produced by the band. Peter Pardini directed and edited the film, which looks at the origin of the rock band in the late ’60s, and its jump to superstardom during the 1980’s and 90’s. The band’s $100 million in record sales make it one of the best-selling bands of all time.

The director was given unprecedented access to rare archive material and performance footage. He was also permitted all-new interviews with the Grammy Award-winning band.

Danny Fisher, CEO of FilmRise, commented: “‘Now More Than Ever: The History of Chicago’ is the quintessential account of one band’s monumental success and influence within American music. …We’re thrilled to partner with CNN Films to bring this film to Chicago’s millions of admirers throughout the world.”

Executive vice president of talent and content development for CNN Worldwide, Amy Entelis agreed: “The legendary melodies of the iconic supergroup Chicago have become a part of Americana.  As the band enters its 50th year of longevity, we hope families and music lovers of all ages enjoy our New Year’s Day premiere. Cheers to our partners at FilmRise for making this special tribute possible.”
