FilmRise Announces The Acquisition Of The Award-Winning Drama, “From Nowhere”

August 25, 2016 — FilmRise has acquired the exclusive North American rights to From Nowhere, the winner of the Narrative Spotlight audience award at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.

Matthew Newton (Queen of the Damned) directed the drama which tells the story of three undocumented teenagers from the Bronx who need to get papers in order to stay in the country. They are forced to deal with the American legal system, their illegal status and graduation from high school. Newton cowrote with Kate Ballen.

Danny Fisher, the CEO of FilmRise, commented on the acquisition: “We are thrilled to be announcing our acquisition of ‘From Nowhere,’ a timely narrative on illegal immigration in America. …Adding a human element to a highly discussed political topic, we look forward spreading the film’s message to a broader audience when we release the film in theaters.”

The film also won the Audience award and the jury-awarded Special Mention prize at the Champs-Élysées Film Festival.

The film stars J. Mallory McCree (Quantico), Octavia Chavez-Richmond and Raquel Castro (Empire).  Julianne Nicholson (Black Mass) and Denis O’Hare (Dallas Buyer’s Club) co-star.

From Nowhere will get a theatrical release in 2017.
