“From Nowhere” Identifies The Constant Fear Facing Three Undocumented Teens In Search Of Legal Status
February 16, 2017 — This movie could not be more timely.
From Nowhere tells the story of three high school students who are struggling with all of the same issues that trouble all teenagers, but these three have another issue which causes them great concern.
The are illegal aliens. They know that at any time, should someone require documentation of them, they could end up deported back to countries they don’t know and have never spent any time in. These children are really “from nowhere”
Each wants to get papers but has to navigate the American legal system to do so.
The wrenching drama was the winner of the Narrative Spotlight audience award at this year’s SXSW Film Festival. The film also won the Audience award and the jury-awarded Special Mention prize at the Champs-Élysées Film Festival.
Matthew Newton (Queen of the Damned) directed the drama which he cowrote with Kate Ballen.
The film stars J. Mallory McCree (Quantico), Octavia Chavez-Richmond and Raquel Castro (Empire). Julianne Nicholson (Black Mass) and Denis O’Hare (Dallas Buyer’s Club) co-star.
