Revisit the Historic “Battle of the Sexes” Match of the Century in This Emmy-Nominated Docudrama

October 19, 2017 —
Oscar winner Holly Hunter and Tony Award winner Ron Silver star in this dramatization of one of the most thrilling sports events in Western history: the “Battle of the Sexes” tennis match between 29-year-old World No. 1 champ Billie Jean King and 55-year-old Wimbledon winner Bobby Riggs.

Their vast differences in age, sex, skill and professional longevity made this one of the most curious and enthralling tennis matches ever — and the story off the court is even more interesting. Out of shape and in it for the money, Riggs donned sponsored gear and invested loads into the match. King, on the other hand, arrived well-trained and dressed as Cleopatra, presenting Riggs with a squealing piglet to call out his chauvinistic attitude.

Enjoy the back-and-forth banter and contrasting attitudes of this historic figures while also exploring what it means to be a world champion female in international sports.
