January 5, 2016 — FilmRise has acquired the U.S. rights to Lolo, the romantic comedy directed by and starring Julie Delpy.
Delpy, the French actress, director and writer, starred in the acclaimed romantic trilogy Before Sunset, Before Sunrise and Before Midnight. In addition, she is credited on the screenplays for Before Sunset and Before Midnight, both of which received Academy Award nominations for their screenplays.
Delpy began her acting career at the age of 14 and has acted in more than 30 films, including Avengers: Age of Ultron, The Three Musketeers, 2 Days in Paris and An American Werewolf in Paris.
Lolo is the story of a 40-year old woman (Delpy) who falls in love with a computer geek (played by actor/director Dany Boon, Welcome to the Sticks) while on vacation. He, in turn, must find a way to win over her teenage son, Lolo (Vincent Lacoste). Lolo has no intention of being won-over, and would prefer to destroy the relationship in order to keep his mother to himself.
FilmRise will release the film theatrically on March 11, 2016. Delpy expressed her happiness, saying “I am beyond ecstatic that Lolo, a film that means so much to me, will be released theatrically in the U.S. As a filmmaker and actress, I have put my heart and soul into this film. I am so happy that I can share Lolo with American audiences.”
Lolo had its world premiere at the Venice International Film Festival and its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. FilmRise acquired the rights from Wild Bunch.
Danny Fisher, FilmRise’s CEO, stated “With its mainstream appeal, we are thrilled to be bringing Lolo to the U.S. …We are confident that American audiences will fall in love with Julie Delpy’s hilarious crowd-pleaser, just as we have.”
